New Every Morning

The L ord ’ s  lovingkindnesses indeed never cease,  For His compassions never fail.  They  are new every morning;  Great is Your faithfulness. - Lamentations 3: 22-23 The book of Lamentations is not the most uplifting of writings, but then again, Jeremiah's writings tend to be a bit darker than that of other prophets. He suffered much as a prophet, and it is reflected in his tone. Don't believe me? Take note of just a few of his comments in chapter 3:  He has caused my flesh and my skin to waste away (v3), He has walled me in so that I cannot go out (v7), He is to me like a bear lying in wait (v10), He has filled me with bitterness (v15), I have forgotten happiness (v17). Not very encouraging is it? Jeremiah was known as the weeping prophet, and it shows. However, this same prophet turns around and gives us this great statement about God's lovingkindness. It almost seems out of character. How is this possible? Well, Jeremiah understood something that ...

A Call for Christian Response

Guest Blogger My beautiful wife Stephanie Miller, Pastor's wife at First Assembly of God in Jefferson, Tx    Yes, homosexuality is Biblically wrong, and we oppose sin of any kind. We oppose what the Supreme Court did today, and we will not support it. However, we love all people, so when we proclaim that homosexuality is a sin, we do so with love, compassion, and sorrow because we know that the soul of one so loved by God will be eternally lost if we do not proclaim the truth so that they might come to the saving knowledge of Jesus Christ. Also the alcoholic, the adulterer, the liar, etc. Preach the Word of God with love, but understand you will be accused of hate. Preach it anyway! Love anyway! The Holy Spirit draws the sinner to Christ. I don't mind if people call me a hater or intolerant. They don'...

If you are not familiar with the Biblical account of the flood you may say, "Where's the mercy? Among the destruction and lives that were lost, I missed the part about mercy." For 100 years Noah built that massive boat on dry land, in obedience to God's command, knowing that judgment was coming. Even after the boat was built and after all the animals came aboard, and after Noah and his family boarded, the ark sat in "dry dock." Until God himself closed the door( see v. 16), thus sealing them in, and locking everyone else out.  You may have a theory or two as to why God did this, but I will share mine with you: God is always working to show mercy and grace to those who will accept it. I believe that God would have allowed anyone to walk into the a...
