Believers...Assemble!

"not forsaking our own assembling together, as is the habit of some, but encouraging one another; and all the more as you see the day drawing near." - Heb. 10:25

When it comes being a Christian, one of the fundamental truths that we much grasp is that we are now part of something much bigger than we are as individuals. We have become part of the family of God, the Body of Christ: the Church. As a Christian, you are not the Church by yourself, but you are part of the Church. Your unique gifts, talents, and personality means that you are unlike anyone else in creation. You are a valued member of God's family. That means that the Church needs you, and you need the Church!

When the writer of Hebrews penned the verse above, I doubt very seriously that he could even guess that we would be in the place we are today. Due to COVID-19, every church in the US--and likely all over the world--is operating a bit differently than before. Most of us have been impacted to some degree when it comes to meeting together with your church family. To many folks, the church has simply been closed, but this is a poor understanding of what the Church is. The Church is NOT, I repeat, NOT a building. The Church is the ekklesia,  the gathering or assembling of believers together. And, since the Church is the people of God, the Church is never closed, although it may function a bit differently.

Where am I going with this? If you are a Christian, now is not the time for you to disconnect from the body of Christ. This is the time to reach out more than every before to comfort, encourage, and build up each other. Church services are different when you have to tune in online, but the Holy Spirit will still work miracles, give direction, and answer prayer just as if you were seated in the church building. Don't allow the crisis we are facing to separate you from the rest of the Body. Take the initiative and connect, deliberately and passionately with others in your church family. Now is the time to rise up. For the Church in America, this could very-well be our finest hour.
